A moonroof is a type of sunroof, but a sunroof is not a type of moonroof. In other words, the term "sunroof" is a broader term than the term "moonroof". But what exactly does all that mean? Typically, sunroofs are clear or tinted panels in a car's roof that sometimes open and sometimes are fixed to allow light and or air into a vehicle's cabin. On the other hand, moonroofs usually are glass or metal panels that slide between the headliner and roof similar to how a window moves in a car door, opening the cabin to fresh air, sunlight, or moonlight! What is a Panoramic Roof System?
There are many types of moonroofs and sunroofs, including pop-up, spoiler, inbuilt, top-mount, solar, removable, electric, and electronic, but by far one of the most popular types in today's Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and RAM vehicles is the panoramic roof.
Panoramic roofs are sometimes fixed, sometimes movable panels of glass, plastic, or plexiglass that let air and light into a vehicle's cabin. Because they involve multiple panes that usually extend over the majority of a vehicle's roof, panoramic roof systems usually allow interior passengers in the front and rear to separately open and close panels or extend or retract interior sunshades.
